Inspired by the recent Iranian women’s movement against oppression, the Women, Life, Freedom Film Festival, organized by the Association of Iranian Film and Theatre Artists Abroad, is a global showcase of creative works promoting freedom of expression, gender equality, and liberation. The festival features films judged by an esteemed jury, including Marjan Satrapi (Persepolis), Mairi Cameron (The Second), Maryam Keshavarz (The Persian Version), Maryam Palizban (Phenomenon), Pooya Mohseni (Big Dogs), Ashkan Khatibi (Once Upon a Time in Iran), and Pegah Ahangarani (My Father).
The Toronto premiere will highlight the best films from the festival, followed by a thought-provoking panel discussion with industry experts. This is a unique opportunity to engage with filmmakers, activists, and the community on a night dedicated to amplifying marginalized voices.
The panel will be moderated by Nickie Shobeiry (podcast producer and journalist) and will feature Babak Payami (Writer, Director, and Producer), Sholeh Alemi Fabbri (Executive Television Producer and Producer) and Shahrzad Mojab (Professor of Women and Gender Studies and Education).
